Politics and money have corrupted the ecology movement.
There is a need for fresh air.

The sea is a source of wonder. Let’s keep it that way.

Joining forces against the destruction of Nature

Tropical forests converted into plantations for biofuels, wilderness areas invaded by wind turbines, deserts desecrated by solar plants, oceans holding more trash than fish, mangroves turned into shrimp farms, etc.: the planet’s ecosystems are under threat on a scale never equalled before. Sadly, traditional ecologists endorse many of these aggressions. So it is time for real conservationists and nature lovers to distance themselves from this perversion, and to regroup under a new banner. The World Council for Nature is the new, totally independent umbrella organization that will defend natural habitats above anything else. Without habitat there is no biodiversity, no unspoiled landscapes, and no recreation, no inspiration for man.

WCFN have no budget, but we are dedicated people who think nothing is impossible. Together, we will fight current and future aggressions against the natural world, such as:

– deforestation, and the replacing of biodiversity-rich habitats by biodiversity-poor plantations or other land uses,

– unlimited urban sprawl,

– unlimited industrial and commercial sprawl, including activities labeled “green”,

– dumping untreated waste or sewage, inland or at sea,

– oil spills,

– capture and/or trade of wild animals, including for scientific purposes [save force majeure, such as pandemics for instance; for the rest, a protected habitat and tranquility is what wild animals really need],

– experiments on animals, including for scientific purposes
[ New techniques exist that should be substituted: click here ]

– introducing plants foreign to the land, e.g. planting eucalyptus in Brazil [presently being done to earn carbon credits],

– destruction of native animal species and their habitats by exotic “invader” species, e.g. beavers in Argentina and Chile.

This list is not exhaustive and will be completed with suggestions from members, with the approval of all.

  1. While on the surface, many of WCFN’s “concerns” seem noble, I find it odd that they claim to be all about protecting the natural environment but don’t see fit to mention climate change.

    • Contrary to what green activists, corrupt politicians and windfarm salesmen tell us, the science is not settled on climate change.
      But supposing…
Supposing an abnormal climate change is caused by CO2 emitted by man, it has been proven by a dozen independent studies that wind farms do NOT save on CO2. See here for a synopsis: http://www.iberica2000.org/Es/Articulo.asp?Id=4540

      • The science is never settled. To complain that ‘The science is not settled on climate change’ shows simply that you don’t understand science. But, in regard to climate change, the science is as near settled as it is about anything.
        http://ramblingsdc.net/WhyAcceptCScience.html

When a wind turbine generates electricity it displaces electricity generated by other methods; those other methods are often the burning of fossil fuels. So CO2 emissions are reduced. How obvious is that? Still, if it’s not sufficiently obvious, there’s the science: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/wind-power-proves-effective-co2-saver/

      • David,

You’re twisting the words. It’s the other way around. Climate alarmists like Al Gore are saying “the science is settled”.
Climate skeptics are saying: the science is NEVER settled – and of course they are right.
You’re the one who doesn’t understand what science is all about.

As for your analysis of CO2 emissions reduced by wind turbines, you (purposely?) fail to consider the intermittency of wind, which makes the operation of wind turbines impossible without the balancing provided by fossil fuel power stations. And as these ramp up and down their production to compensate for the variations in the wind speed, they emit twice as much CO2, like a car in city traffic as opposed to highway driving.
        Net CO2 savings: zero
Add the CO2 burnt to build the wind turbines and install them, in addition to that burnt to build fossil fuel power plants for their back-up, and you come to increased CO2 emissions because of the wind turbines.
Add the huge cost of wind turbines, the loss of jobs in the economy as electricity prices rise, the loss of property values everywhere they are installed, the negative health effects on residents, the killing of millions of birds and bats every year, and you have on your hands the biggest and most harmful scam of the century, if not the millenium.

  2. have you considered the massive amount of reefs that are lost to to harbor dredging- the worst case is the ten miles below Santa Barbara harbor -silted in from 70 years of wreckless harbor dredging
